Note that I have not included the ancestry of Joseph Driggs (c1682 - 1748). Most people follow what is concluded in the published Driggs family history books, but I am far from convinced that a Dutch ancestry is proven. I believe it is possible that he comes from the de Raet family, but I also think he could have been Portuguese or even from England. It's been said there are no Driggs that are not descendants of Joseph Driggs - which obviously is not true as of the early 1800's, e.g., Manuel "Driggs" of Falmouth, MA. Since there are definitely names similar to Driggs, such as "Drigges" and "Driggers" - especially found in the area from Delaware to North Carolina - it is possible "Driggs" is related to those families instead. Discovering that Manuel Driggs of Falmouth, MA was probably Portuguese made me consider whether the origin of the main family was also Portuguese.
There are several possibilities to investigate, and they all should be given adequate attention before one dominant theory is reached. Therefore, I do not include any ancestry of Joseph Driggs here.
The main sources for information in this database are obviously the published Driggs family histories, but also vital records, census records, town histories, newspapers, and contributions to the LDS databases (which are especially prone to error). This database is not a published work, and I am not a professional genealogist. Please e-mail me if you find errors, have additions, or want me to remove any living individuals that I failed to omit. You should verify information on your own. I have not included sources online. If you want to know the source(s) of particular information, please e-mail me.
First/Middle names with asterisks (***) mean the connection is uncertain.
